Biography

Carla Morgan was born in Alhambra, California and grew up in Azusa. Her family moved to Phoenix, Arizona where she attended Maryvale High School and Phoenix College. Carla had lived in Northern Arizona for twenty years teaching Aerobics and Weight Training at Northland Pioneer College.

In 2005, Carla moved to the Chandler area and began working at VCHS helping to implement the SP-ED program called “VINE” at Valley and the following years she developed and taught ASL I, II, and III. Carla is instrumental in starting up “Bridges” and “He-Brews Coffee Shop” at VCS. This is her third year in directing the “Christmas Extravaganza” in ASL. Carla comments “It’s the best job I have ever had.”

At North Phoenix Baptist Church, Carla met her husband of thirty four years, Bill Morgan (love of her life) former Head Football Coach for Valley Christian; winning Valley’s first and only two State Football Championships and another runner-up state Football title. They have three children, Mishell, Jordan and Karli Nicole. Jordan and Nicole both attended Valley. Jordan received a full-ride Athletic Football Scholarship to the University of California, Berkeley and he is now in his second year of Law School. Nicole developed the “Bridges” program, a friendship club at Valley. Nicole pole vaulted at Mesa Community College and is now a junior at ASU and recently received a prestigious academic excellence scholarship award from the Mary Lou Fulton Teacher’s Academy. Carla’s passion for American Sign Language and working with SP-ED students is attributed to her oldest daughter Mishell, who passed away in 2005 after a lifelong battle with Epilepsy.

Carla accepted Jesus as her Savior at the age of eight years old. She is thankful to her mother who was born in Japan and formerly a Japanese Buddhist who married her father during the Korean War and later became a citizen of the United States. Her mother became a Christian through Carla’s Grandma who shared the Gospel with her. Carla has fond memories of walking to church (four miles round trip) with her mother and sisters to Azusa Baptist Church. Through her mother’s constant prayers, her father accepted the Lord and they both dedicated their lives to serving the Lord for over fifty years.

When traveling to France, Carla experienced the language of ASL with her students and appreciated how ASL was developed from the French and brought to the U.S. by Thomas Gallaudet and Laurent Clerc.

Carla loves the LA Rams, Disneyland, Beaches, and Asian food. She enjoys baking cookies, eating chocolates, hanging out at home watching movies and vacationing with her husband and kids.
