Worship Choir 5

Course Description:

In this class, 5th grade students will develop basic vocal and stage performance skills with a strong focus on Christian music. Musical styles will range from contemporary Christian, Christian hip hop, Christian blues, a cappella, traditional hymns, and more – with praising God at the center of all we do! (Psalm 96:1-2). Students will learn music theory basics, sight reading, and vocal techniques to develop their God-given voices. Above all else, students will walk out of this class with the clear understanding that all praise and glory go directly to Jesus Christ.

This class will include opportunities for multiple performances including our Christmas and Spring programs, Veteran’s Day, Spiritual Emphasis Week and, occasionally, special music for Chapel. All skill levels are welcome. This course is graded primarily on participation and readiness for performances.

There will be additional before or after school rehearsals the week of the Christmas and Spring programs.

Worship Choir 7-8

Course Description:

This class is intended to teach fun and foundational singing techniques to anyone with a desire to become a more confident singer and stage performer. This class is offered to both 7th and 8th graders and will primarily focus on blending voices in the larger group and using harmonizing techniques in smaller ensembles. There will be several singing events throughout the year and mini tours to the elementary and high school campuses. Students will purchase a Choir shirt and semi-formal concert attire.

Bella Voce students are welcome to join this class.

Students are required to participate in the following performances

  • Odyssey of Excellence
  • Spring Spectacular

Bella Voce

Course Description:

Bella Voce is a show choir ensemble for 7-8 singers. Entrance into this course is by audition only. Auditions will be conducted at the end of April each year. Students will learn a variety of 2 and 3-part choral music from modern worship, musical theatre, and pop genres. Bella Voce students will learn proper vocal technique, to read music, and dynamic performance skills. Students have an opportunity to perform solos and learn show choir style choreography. Students may be required to attend occasional after school rehearsals to prepare for upcoming performances.

Bella Voce will participate in Mini Tours to the elementary, high school campuses and a field trip to a musical venue. Students will need to purchase a Bella Voce team hoodie/shirt and semi-formal concert performance attire. Students are required to participate in the following performances:

  • Spring Spectacular

Concert Choir

Course Description:

The development of musicianship, overall confidence, music appreciation, breath support combined with basic theory and healthy vocal technique are the foundations of this course.

This performance ensemble will learn 4 to 8-part music in a mixed (SATB, SSAATTBB) setting. Listening, healthy vocal technique, and Biblical integration will be emphasized along with excellent rehearsal etiquette. A variety of musical genres will be utilized. Concert Choir will perform several times throughout the school year in churches, at school events, and for various organizations.

They will also participate in music festivals, contests and tours. No audition needed.

Full year — 1 credit

Chorale

For admittance into Chorale, singers are interviewed and auditioned in front of the Fine Arts Director, Fine Arts Assistant, VCHS Administrator, and Guidance Counselor. Prerequisites include proper vocal technique, sight reading skills, accurate intonation, academic eligibility, leadership, and servanthood.

Course Description

This ensemble is expected to represent VCHS and their walk with the Lord with a high level of excellence and integrity. Chorale members are exposed to more serious and challenging choral literature where the sense of ensemble is emphasized. Classroom time involves not only singing together, but also learning how to effectively present the message of Christ through music.

There are many concerts throughout the school year (approx. 40) including one out of state tour. Chorale students are required to be members and section leaders of the Concert Choir.

Full year — 1 credit
