Recently I noticed that I had 33 tabs open in my phone’s internet browser. 33. A glaring reminder that there are 33 things that I’ve been meaning to read or do that I simply haven’t read or done.

Two of those pages belong to nonprofits, each of which I’ve been meaning to support.

Then the other day, I was reminded of a couple of interesting pictures:

I suppose this could have come from either of the nonprofits I’ve been meaning to support. The black and white photo could have been starving children, wayward college students, struggling businesses, the homeless, or some other need that was under-resourced.

I talk to a lot of people who tell me they’ve been meaning to give financially to Valley Christian High School. To a specific program, at an event, or to the school’s bottom line. They’re not alone… just minutes ago, I gave a small gift to each of the two nonprofits that have been begging for my attention for months on my phone. My intention is not to guilt you into giving, just as I don’t think I was being guilted into giving – far from it! But do allow me to encourage you – if you have been meaning to give to Valley Christian High School, or if you have been meaning to give to another Kingdom cause… do it. Don’t wait. If it’s for Valley Christian, it won’t take long (see the links below). If it’s for your church, they may have an online giving system, and if not, write a check now and put it next to your keys. If it’s for somewhere else, my guess is it will be a similarly quick process. In any case, don’t wait.

As you know, God calls us to generosity. Matthew 6:19-21 says, “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”

And after all, you’ve been meaning to be generous – how long has that webpage been open on your phone or that letter been on your counter?

Let’s not only intend to give. Let’s give.
