The Trojan track & field teams finished the season strong at the state championships at Mesa Community College. The girls team finished in 4th and the boys finished 5th in the overall standings.
Senior Ashley Harrison captured two gold medals in the 100m hurdles and triple jump, a silver in the 300m hurdles and a fourth place finish in the high jump. The senior vaulting duo of Skylar Cavanaugh and Eric Cochran swept the boys and girls pole vault gold medals. Cochran also medaled in the triple jump with a fourth place finish. Cavanaugh won her event by over a foot and a half and Cochran by a foot.
Seniors Riley Rhodes finished in third place in the pole vault, Cooper Fiedler finished fourth in the 3200m run, and Drew Steiginga finished fourth in the shot put. The girls 4×800 relay team also medaled, finishing in fourth place
The four individual state championships bring Valley Christian’s school total to an incredible 194 individual and relay state championships.
