Marianne (Sloterbeek) Heim has been on staff since 2002. Under her direction, the Concert Choir and Chorale have performed at Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center, took a mission’s tour to Poland and produced their first album “Live from the Music Hall”. She serves as the producer of the Fine Arts Department shows in addition to directing out-of-state tours, in-state mini-tours, and more than 40 concerts each school year. Marianne’s voice students have gone on to receive vocal scholarships and have achieved success at both the college and professional levels. She has a passion, through the empowerment of the Holy Spirit, to inspire students to use the gifts they have been given to worship Jesus Christ and to be a light and joy to their community.
She received a B.A. in Vocal Performance and Theatre from Grand Canyon University in 2001 and her Masters Degree in Secondary Music and Drama Education with an emphasis in conducting at GCU in 2003. When she isn’t teaching her private voice students and high school choirs at Valley Christian, she can be found serving as Adjunct Professor of Voice at Grand Canyon University, conducting the Valley Christian Community Choir, the Valley Christian Youth Choir, the Summer Musical Theater Workshop, and performing in her solo artist career.
Marianne graduated from Valley Christian in 1997, sang in the Concert Choir and later traveled to France with the Concert Choir where she sang “Ave Maria” as a soloist in Notre Dame Cathedral. She has participated in and/or directed over 60 musicals, plays, and choral works, as well as singing with the Phoenix Symphony. She also performed a classical solo tour with the von Promnitz Royal Family in Europe during the summer of 2012.
She is a member of the American Choral Directors Association, the National Association for Music Education, and also National Association of Teachers of Singing. Marianne was awarded “Who’s Who in American Top Teachers” in 2015 and achieved her Lifetime Certification with the Association of Christian Schools International in 2015.
She spends her spare time singing and ministering at her home church as well as with her accompanist and friend, Joanna Banta, in their singing group “Diva Duo”.
Marianne loves speaking to young women about the power of waiting on God’s best as she shares the story of waiting for God to bring her amazing husband, Mike Heim. The Heims love taking road trips to the ocean, having family gatherings, and serving children in the foster care system.
