Biography
Greg Haagsma has been teaching at Valley Christian since the 1991-92 school year. He grew up in Pella, Iowa and attended Pella Christian Junior High and Dordt College. Greg married his wife, Myrna, in 1988. Greg and Myrna have three children, Brandon ’14, Taylor ’16, and Shane ’20.
Greg is the Athletic Director at Valley Christian since 2012 and has been the head boys basketball coach since 1997. Greg previously taught all the business and accounting classes at the high school. Greg also was the baseball coach at Valley Christian from 1991 – 2002 and the girls basketball coach from 1991 – 1997.
He ranks among the all-time winningest basketball coaches in Arizona history with more than 700+ career wins, all coming at Valley Christian and is serving his second term as 3A president. His boys teams have won six state championships (most recently in 2019) and finished state runner-up twice.
Greg enjoys fishing, camping, as well as watching his favorite sports teams – the New York Yankees and the Iowa Hawkeyes.
