Biography

Dr. Miller was born and raised in Tucson. In 1984, she moved to Scottsdale where she attended Chaparral High School. She and her amazing husband of 30+ years continue to live in Scottsdale. The Millers have four wonderful children, three of whom are Valley graduates, and two amazing grandchildren. When she is not working hard at Valley, Lisa loves to run, cook, and read. She spends much of her free time with her family in either Rocky Point or Pinetop.

Dr. Miller believes education begins with the heart and thus emphasizes the development of a solid Christian worldview with which to evaluate all material presented to an individual whether it is in school or out. She knows her students will need a firm foundation as they mature both physically and spiritually.

Lisa Miller brings more than 30 years of academic and professional experience in education to her role as Spanish and Biology teacher at Valley Christian High School. A former administrator and founder of Calvary Academy as well as classroom and specialty teacher for preschool through eighth grade, Lisa also served as a part-time professor in Curriculum and Instruction at Arizona State University. Additional professional experience includes a recent chapter (May 2015) in a book about educational quality, publication of research and presentations at international educational conferences. A former bilingual, multi-age elementary school teacher, Dr. Miller has practical experience within both public and private school settings ranging from preschool through graduate school. She holds a Doctoral degree in Curriculum and Instruction, a Masters degree in Education, with a focus on Language and Literacy, and an Undergraduate degree in Bilingual Education.
