Biography

Damon was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania but his family decided to move from the Steel City when he was 5 years old to the Baltimore (Charm City) Metropolitan area, being raised in Columbia, Maryland.

Damon’s parents kept him actively involved in many different disciplines including modern jazz dance, tap, theatre, swim team, church youth group, track and field, and baseball. But it was basketball where he found his gift. After graduating from Atholton High School, Damon attended the University of Maryland at College Park majoring in African-American Studies where he attempted to walk-on to play basketball for the Terrapins. He explains that his life would have changed drastically if the Terps would have simply picked up one more person after choosing only one of the two as promised. Prior to earning a full athletic scholarship to play DII basketball at Mercyhurst College, Damon played basketball for one year at Howard Community College, after transferring from University of Maryland at College Park, leading the team to the Division II NJCAA Final Four.

Damon taught 9th and 11th grade English for three years, coaching JV and Varsity boys’ basketball at Wilde Lake High School for 8 years in Columbia, MD and a Special Education Teacher of three years at The Children’s Guild in Chillum, MD. Prior to coming on board at Valley Christian Schools, Damon was a University Admissions Counselor at Grand Canyon University, helping to change the lives of individuals while pursuing their degree and is currently the Head Coach of the Trojans’ Junior Varsity girls basketball team.

On December 11, 2011, walking to his apartment, Damon stopped in the middle of the street to ponder all that had taken place in the last 7 months. From his active and passionate pursuit for TRUTH of studying and reading Scripture, reading various commentaries, sermons, devotionals and books from the likes of Matthew Henry, Charles Spurgeon and Oswald Chamber to spending large amounts of time researching and reading many books at Phoenix Seminary library. At that moment, he was engulfed in the radiance of God’s love. That day, he was saved by His amazing grace. Damon reads his Bible every day without fail and hasn’t put it down since the day he picked it up on May 25th 2011. You will either find him reading his bible, a gospel-based book, a sermon by Charles Spurgeon, or something biblically based or listening to one of his YouTube Channels like Theo Cast, Apologia Studios or The Urban Perspective. Damon truly has a love for Jesus and a heart to evangelize and engage others in Truth to see them saved.
