The Emily Burkert Rocha (’15) Memorial Scholarship testifies to the legacy of VCS alumnus, Dr. Emily Burkert Rocha.

Emily graduated from Valley Christian in 2015, Grand Canyon University summa cum laude in 2018 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology with an emphasis in Pre-Physical Therapy and minors in Communications and Psychology, and Northern Arizona University in 2022 with her doctorate in Occupational Therapy. Emily worked as an Occupational Therapist for HonorHealth in Scottsdale Shea Medical Center.

Emily was married to David Rocha (’15) on March 23, 2019, in Phoenix, Arizona. She was a member of many groups and organization including National Society of Collegiate Scholars and American Occupational Therapy Association. She had a passion for hiking, spin class, Nebraska Cornhusker football, caring for children living with special needs, and her faith in Jesus Christ.

Emily’s husband, family, and friends have created The Emily Burkert Rocha (’15) Memorial Scholarship to honor the life of this effervescent, well-rounded, kind-hearted, young woman. Emily went to her eternal home with Jesus on July 6, 2023.

APPLICATION CRITERIA

Financial needs-based scholarship for a current VCS V.I.N.E. family.

 

AWARD AMOUNT

$1,500, one-time scholarship, to be awarded and distributed annually.

 

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

  • Applicants will be K-12th grade students currently enrolled in the V.I.N.E. program at VCS.
  • Applicant families must have a FACTS Grant and Aid application completed and on file for the school year the scholarship applies.
  • Parent(s) should compete an essay (up to 300 words) describing the family, the financial need, and their passion for Christian education as well as how the V.I.N.E. program is impacting your student.
  • Student should complete an essay (up to 300 words) describing why they value Christian education and how they plan to be culture changers for Christ. Parents can assist if necessary for students in grades K-6.

 

INSTRUCTIONS TO APPLY

  • Complete the form below.
  • 2023-24 applications must be submitted by October 31, 2023.
  • The winner will be notified within 30 days of the application deadline.
  • The scholarship will be awarded within 30 days of notification.
  • This scholarship is intended for a student’s VCS tuition.
