Trojan golf conquered the field at the D-III State Championships in Prescott on their way to a fourth consecutive state championship. Valley Christian extended their already large first round lead on the final day to capture the state title by a whopping 39 strokes.
Freshman James Mackie (-4) captured the individual title after pulling away late on the second day from junior teammate Garret deFisser (+1). Mackie ended up winning by three strokes over second place and joins Zach Hyer ’08 as individual champions in school history.
The Trojans placed three golfers among the Top 10 individuals at the state championships. In addition to Mackie (first; -4) and deFisser (fourth; +1), junior RJ David tied for ninth at 7-over for the tournament.
Rounding out the scoring for the Trojans was junior Evan Miller who finished tied for 11th at 9-over. Freshman Trey Harrison and Senior Steven Widger also competed for the Trojans.
The state championship extends Valley Christian’s streak to 26 consecutive years with a team state championship.
Congratulations to Coach Longanecker and his golf team on another incredible season and state championship!
