Congratulations to both the boys and girls varsity basketball teams on outstanding seasons. Valley Christian was the only high school in any of the divisions in Arizona to have both boys and girls teams playing in the state championship games. It also marks the 24th consecutive school year that Valley Christian has won a state championship in a team sport.
The boys basketball team defeated Cortez in the finals to earn the program’s fifth state title. Senior Cory Kasperson led the Trojans with a career-high 24 points in the championship game. Seniors Zach Wolf and T.J. Widner each scored 12 points.
The girls basketball team faced a senior-laden Fountain Hills squad and came up just short. The girls finished the season as the state runner-up and recorded an incredible 33-1 record.
A special thanks to everyone who supported the school in the playoffs and at the championship game. In addition to the many well wishes from alumni and families from out of state or those watching on TV, we had a fantastic crowd on hand for the championship games on Saturday. Our large and supportive fan base represented the special community we have here at Valley and was a great example to all of the “big schools” at the arena that day.
