Valley Christian was voted the Best Athletic Program in Arizona in USA Today’s “American’s Best Athletic Program” contest. The Trojan athletic department topped second-place Desert Vista by over 10,000 votes.
“This is a neat honor for our school to receive,” Athletic Director Greg Haagsma stated. “It’s great to see our students and community supporting our school and showing their pride in Valley Christian and our outstanding athletic tradition.”
Valley Christian has won 64 team state championships in the school’s history, including winning a state team championship each of the last 25 years. Last year, Trojan golf extended the streak with their third-straight state title.
The USA Today contest for America’s Best Athletic Program takes place over a 10-month period (August-June), where schools from each state, including Washington D.C., that have won a state championship in the past three academic years (2012-15) in a state sanctioned sport will compete for the best athletic program in the country. States will be rolled out in groups of three in two-week increments over the 10-month period.
The next round will be made up of the top two schools in each state plus 18 at-large schools. Voting for the group stage begins in May.
We’ll be sure to communicate when the fan voting opens to get Valley Christian on to the final stage in May.
