Two of our alumni from the Class of 2015 are preparing to graduate from service academies and begin their service as leaders of our nation’s military.

Skylar Cavanaugh ’15 will be graduating in May and will commission as an officer in the U.S. Navy. Skylar will be a Surface Warfare Officer (SWO) and recently chose to begin her service on the guided-missile destroyer U.S.S. Howard in its homeport of San Diego. After graduating, she’ll go off to basic officer training school for SWOs. After training, she’ll be a division officer on her ship and lead around 15 sailors.

Bailey Flansburg ’15 will graduate from the Air Force Academy in May and will commission as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force. He will then begin pilot training in March of 2010 at Laughlin Air Force Base in Texas. Training will take a little over a year to complete and then he will learn which airframe he will fly.

Bailey said, “I am so excited about this incredible opportunity, which couldn’t have been possible with VCHS. There is no doubt in my mind that Valley allowed me to come here, and that I wouldn’t have gotten into the Academy without the opportunities that Valley gave me. I am so grateful for what Valley has done for me.”
