Luke 2:8 & 9 – And in the same region there were shepherds out in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And an angel of the Lord appeared to them, and they were filled with fear.

I think the shepherds give us a good example of how we should react to God and his glory.  It is interesting how God first announced Jesus’ birth to this group of people.  They actually were the vagabonds of that society.  They couldn’t be trusted and were not even allowed to testify in courts because of their dishonesty. However, God chose to appear to them to represent the fact he came for all people. If we are truly honest, we have to admit we probably are a lot like the shepherds. We also are sinful and totally unworthy of Christ’s salvation. What a joy it is for us who have confessed our sins that we also get to share in this salvation.

But notice how the shepherds responded.  They were filled with fear.  Fear in this passage means to stand in awe, to have a deep respect or honor.  If you read in the passage further the angel tells them, “I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people.  Notice the angel says this good news is for them.  They had no other response then to bow down and give God worship and revere Him.

This is what we strive to do at Valley Christian.  Our goal is for students to worship God through every single subject they study.  We want them to be in awe of God and see his glory no matter if they are studying English, science, or Bible.

I know this season can get very busy. However, let’s intentionally set apart a time when we can truly worship and give God the glory for all he has done for us. This ultimately is the reason we celebrate this season.

On behalf of Valley Christian I wish you and your families a Merry Christmas and a blessed New Year.
