Chandler, AZ – Coach Jake Petersen, Head Football Coach at Valley Christian High School, continues to make a profound impact both on and off the field. Recently featured in an article by Abrielle Jarles, a member of the AIA’s Student SID program and a student at Valley Christian, Petersen’s coaching journey is a testament to his dedication to mentoring athletes and fostering their growth in faith, character, and skill.

As a third-generation coach, Petersen’s passion for sports was ingrained in him from an early age. His family’s deep-rooted coaching legacy and his own experience as a multi-sport athlete shaped his coaching philosophy. After playing football and baseball at the University of Mary, he began his coaching career in North Dakota, where he discovered his passion for mentoring young athletes. His coaching journey eventually led him to Arizona, where he joined Valley Christian as a volunteer in 2013, rising through the ranks to become Head Coach in 2020.

Petersen’s coaching philosophy revolves around four core values: commitment, service, sacrifice, and perseverance. He integrates biblical teachings into his coaching, helping players grow both as athletes and individuals, with a focus on building strong relationships.

In her article, Jarles highlights one of Petersen’s most memorable moments—meeting a former player who shared that he and his fiancé were planning to base their marriage on the values Coach Petersen instilled in him. This story is a testament to Petersen’s lasting influence on his athletes.
