Lisa Gross has been named the head volleyball coach at Valley Christian High School, Athletic Director Greg Haagsma has announced.
Gross who has collegiate playing experience and high school coaching experience has strong ties to Valley Christian. Lisa and her husband, Jonathan, have had two daughters graduate from VCHS and their son is currently a junior at the school. She also served as the freshman volleyball coach in 2012.
“I am very excited to see Lisa develop this program and elevate it to a championship level,” Haagsma said. “She is a very passionate, high energy person who has a high volleyball IQ and is able to communicate all of that very well with her student-athletes.”
Gross played four years of high school volleyball in southern California before beginning her collegiate career at Dordt. She played for the Defenders for three years as a defensive specialist and setter. She moved to Austin, Texas after getting married following her junior year and finished up her college career as the setter at Concordia Lutheran.
The Gross’ have four children: Kyla ’12, Ashlyn ’15, Jared ’17 and Michael ’23, who is a student at Phoenix Christian School K-8. The family has attended Phoenix United Reformed Church for many years.
The Trojans open their season at home on Tuesday, September 1 vs. Scottsdale Christian. The VCHS volleyball program has won nine state championships and produced dozens of college student-athletes. The Trojans are coming off of a season in which they captured the section championship and advanced to the state quarterfinals.
