Biography
Barb grew up in the East Valley and has lived here for most of her life. She attended school in Mesa and attended Grace United Methodist Church throughout her childhood.
Barb will celebrate 39 years of marriage to Joe Hunsaker this year. Together they have two adult children who live here in the valley, and a one-year-old Golden Retriever. She enjoys spending time with family and friends playing games. She also enjoys visiting relatives in Albuquerque and Chicago. Random trivia she wants you to know: “We have a 50 lb. desert tortoise that lives in our backyard at our home in Gilbert.”
This year will be Barbara’s 40th year as an educator. Prior to working at Valley, she was an Assistant Principal and Principal at Bethany Christian School for 13 years. Before working at BCS, she worked implementing the Success for All Reading Program as a teacher/trainer for 9 years. At the start of her career in education, she taught in various special education classes: self-contained, and resource. In addition to teaching and directing VINE, Barb helps with “Bridges,” an organization created to bridge students who are in the VINE program, with students who are not. This helps students promote positive friendships and relationships with one another, working toward our mission of building lifelong community. She loves attending retreats, as well as fine arts and athletic events to support Valley students.
