Stefanie McKean grew up in Mesa, and moved to southern California as a teenager. She grew up with a deep love of music, playing piano, singing, and playing trombone. Mrs. McKean got her undergraduate degree at Cal State Fullerton in Trombone Performance, and her graduate degree at USC (Fight On!) in Teaching. Through music, God provided a way for her to perform in Hawaii, Germany, Austria, Hungary, and the Czech Republic. Mrs. McKean met her husband, Tim, playing in the orchestra at church. Together, they have lived in California, Washington, and now Arizona. They adopted their son, Matthew from Ukraine seven years ago, and now are a family of three with many adopted dogs at home, too! They enjoy being outdoors, trying new restaurants, and playing games with family.
Mrs. McKean was able to check off a “bucket list” item this past year, as she got her certificate in Baking from Spokane Community College, and has worked in a professional bakery called “Common Crumb.” Her favorite thing to make is a lemon meringue tart with a brüleed topping. Before moving to Washington, Mrs. McKean taught music and arts at Cedar Middle School for ten years in Hesperia, California. Stefanie works hard to advocate for music in the community, and has been apart of many organizations, including starting the district-wide Band Spectacular, and served on the board as president of the San Bernardino County Music Educators Association for several years.
Mrs. McKean is thrilled to be a part of the junior high at Valley Christian and knows the Lord has great things planned for the students and staff.
