Rebekah was born in Kansas City, MO, but would say that her hometown is the beautiful desert of Arizona. She is a Valley Christian alum, where she enjoyed science classes and played softball as an infielder. She went to Grand Canyon University after high school and acquired a degree in Biology with a Pre-PA emphasis. During that time, she felt God shift her heart toward following him into teaching. This led to the decision to continue her education and obtain a Master’s in Secondary Education.
Throughout her young adulthood, Rebekah was very involved in student ministry and has a passion for youth and the world’s people. After she finished her student teaching, she made a bold move to attend a 6-month Discipleship Training School through Youth With A Mission (YWAM) in Townsville, Australia. She spent about half the time in Australia learning in the classroom, as well as working as an intern at a local radio station. She spend the other half of the time traveling both on ground and on a medical ship through Papua New Guinea. Activities included: delivering health care, teaching both practical and spiritual lessons, and obtaining interviews/content for the radio station. It was there that she truly learned what it means to “make disciples” as we are called to do in Matthew 28.
Before she returned, she accepted a position at Bethany Christian School to teach 6th-8th grade science. In the midst of that first school year, she said yes to and married her wonderful husband, Aaron Fischer, who is her biggest supporter and best friend. She thrived at Bethany Christian School for 2 year before the school made the decision to close it’s doors. It was during this time that the Lord led her back to VCS. She is very excited to be back at the amazing community that helped shape who she is today.
Aside from teaching, Rebekah enjoys doing many things with her husband, such as: outdoor activities (especially playing sports and hiking), playing games (i.e. Settlers of Catan), being a part of what God is doing at their home church, spending quality time with friends and family, and supporting their favorite sports team. Go D-Backs!
