Matt was born in 1983 and grew up in Quincy, IL. God saved his wretched soul in a private bathroom at Southern Illinois University. Instead of opening a nightclub as initially planned, God changed his affections. Matt had a fresh hunger to learn more about the God of the gospel, which led him to Bible school in Dallas, Texas. It is here where he also met his lovely wife. Brooke and Matt united in the covenant of marriage on December 17, 2005. Brooke graciously supported Matt’s endeavor to complete a diploma at Christ for the Nations and attend Criswell College, where he received a Bachelor of Arts in biblical studies. Her encouragement was additionally instrumental in his completion of a Master of Arts in theology at Trinity College of the Bible and Theological Seminary. Matt is currently earning a Master of Education, with an emphasis on curriculum and instruction, from Walden University.
Matt and Brooke moved from Dallas to Santa Rosa, CA, where he taught Bible to high school students. After two years, the Lord transitioned Matt and his family to York, PA. He served at Christian School of York for eight years as the Bible teacher, spiritual life coordinator, administrative member, and lead high school instructor. In 2016, he was a finalist for the PA-CAPE educator awards. During this time, Matt also served on the elder team at his local church; he led evangelistic outreaches, taught, preached, and helped the intellectually disabled. After much prayer, Matt and his family are thrilled to join the Valley Christian community, beginning in the 2018-19 school year.
Matt and Brooke have four children. Malachi (2007), Selah (2009), Isabella (2012) and Aidan (2014) are hectic and hilarious. One of their favorite things to do is go to the beach, which conveniently gives them an avenue to be energetic and wild in memorable ways. Brooke enjoys working as an exercise instructor. Matt’s interests are reading theological and philosophical writings and playing basketball and ping pong. The ultimate aim of the O’Brien family is to bring glory to the Triune God of Scripture in every sphere of life.
