Q.  How do I apply to host an international student?

A.  You can start the process of applying to become a host family by contacting or school office, [email protected] or (480) 705-8888, and we will connect you with our International Student Program Family Liaison.

Q.  Would I make a good host family candidate?

A.  If you have a welcoming home environment, a spare room, and a passion for positively impacting students then you are most likely an amazing host family candidate! Our current host families have made amazing impacts on our international students and we are looking forward to seeing what God does in the lives of our students and families in the near future.

Q.  How long do families host students for?

A.  Our host families commit to hosting a student for an entire school year. If the student decides to attend Valley for another school year, then host families have the option of hosting again the following year.

Q.  I’m not sure if I would be able to afford the cost of hosting an international student. Does the school offer any assistance with this?

A.  Yes, the school currently offers a $700 per month stipend to families to help them cover the costs of hosting an international student.

Q.  Who covers the cost of school trips or extracurricular activities?

A.  The student’s family would cover this cost.

Q.  Does the school provide lunch for students?

A.  We do provide school lunch for those being placed through our Homestay organization.

Q.  What are host families expected to provide for international students?

A.  We require host families to provide a private bedroom, a shared or private bathroom, three meals a day, and a positive home environment.

Q.  When do students arrive and leave for the year?

A.  Our international students arrive a couple of days prior to school starting in August and leave a couple of days after the completion of the school year in May.

Q.  Will the student return to their home country for the holidays?

A.  Most of our students do, however we leave this up to families to decide.

Q.  Can international students travel with our family if go on vacation?

A.  Students are allowed to travel with our host families, but they must be sure to have their I-20 travel endorsement signed by the school official (PDSO).

Q.  Can international students drive while in the United States?

A.  No, international students are not allowed to drive in the U.S. due to liability and prohibitive insurance costs.
